@RoyalMail prove themselves to be bad sports with a little customer service Twitter fail! I was waiting for a very important package to arrive at the office today - and it was in the hands of The Royal Mail, the mail service people in the UK love to hate, but are stuck with. We all love to watch brands make a social media faux pas on Twitter and Facebook but today I found myself at the receiving end of a little abuse from the customer service rep closest to the keyboard when I voiced my dissapointment at their failure to deliver my package. You can see the offending twitter reply in the pictures below but in case it isn’t working, let me tell you how it went…

@tommyjames: Just for the record @RoyalMail, @TNTExpress wouldn’t have let me down!

@RoyalMail: Just for the record @tommyjames , the SD guarantee has been suspended since Wed 1 Dec: http://bit.ly/brgwRT

A little sarcastic and rude if you ask me. Usually I wouldn’t care, but I had to bring up the point that this is Twitter…they have over 5000 followers, I have nearly 500 and this blog sees over 6000 readers a month - which means their ignorance is being broadcast to over 10,000 (usually unhappy) customers and badly damaging their already badly torn reputation.

Good work Royal Mail.

IOBR, a device created by ioBridge, is the first social media network for … BABIES?! The network allows them to update their status and keep informed with what their other baby friends are up to. “Diaper Change!” — “Like”.

Path is the personal network.  A place to be yourself and share life with close friends and family. The personal network doesn’t replace your existing social networks – it augments them.

Path allows you to capture your life’s most personal moments and share them with the 50 close friends and family in your life who matter most.

Because your personal network is limited to your 50 closest friends and family, you can always trust that you can post any moment, no matter how personal. Path is a place where you can be yourself.

Not entirely sure if we need another network to join but I like the concept of just having 50 friends; no race for popularity, no showing off. Could be a winner.

Facebook Messages…email via Facebook. The take over continues…and will probably continue to fail to function when you want it to.

Fresh from drowning a man in Skittles, they’re back, this time making videos of your thoughts. You simply write down whats on your mind, send it to the skittles call center, and they will make it into a video, and post it on your Facebook wall. Who’s going to come up with the coolest idea?!

Addicted to Facebook? Well you need to get out a bit more… but don’t forget to take your Facebook dress along with you so people know who you are! It’s not only you addicted to Facebook it seems the world has gone a bit social obsessed. This Facebook frock was created by Romanian fashion designer named Lana.

‘Just as you thought Facebook couldn’t get any bigger’ - Well this time it just might with the launch of a new Facebook branded phone. A ‘mobile’ event taking place on Wednesday in California could unveil the new phone, possibly working with Android to create the phones software. Watch this space.

Augmented Reality Graffiti comes to Foursquare. Now you can go around legally tagging the world on your smart phone with this new app that works with Foursquare. Roll up to a wall, capture it, tag it and check-in. Then you can have a look to see who else has tagged the same spot.

Looks like Myspace is getting a makeover… again!

“Curators bringing you the best of new things” quotes their new promotional video, but with a follow button like twitter, video streaming just like YouTube and pop up chat, haven’t we seen it all before?

Fans of the world will you be Myspace it again ?

The use of Twitter is rewriting the book, literally! The guys at Loducca, Brazil have come up with a nice way to promote the newest release from the international best selling author Paulo Coelho, The Aleph. It’s called ‘AlephTweets’. The basic jist is Loducca used software that combined tweets from all over the world with the words of The Aleph. These tweets are then displayed on a website which, ‘rewrites’ the book in real-time word by word. It’s a really nice concept especially when you look a little deeper…
‘The Aleph’ means the ‘the point where time and space converge’, which was experienced in an epiphany Coelho had whilst crossing Asia on the Transiberian train (which travels through 7 different time zones). This moment of sudden revelation is nicely integrated into a twitter campaign, by using real-‘time’ tweets and placing them into a ‘space’ where everyone can read. Soo much depth and meaning man…
